Debut design - Niki Alane Interiors

This one is personal. Like super personal.

Niki is my sister-in-law.

Her and my brother (Matt) live in a beautiful home that they have renovated top to bottom with their own vision and design styles and a TONNE of DIY. They are both multi-uber talented! (yes that’s a word, lol)

Niki is just getting started with interior design as Niki Alane Interiors and she’s also on mat leave as a very busy mom of three!

However I’m 110% confident that when she is ready to soar in the interior design world - she will!

But that isn’t the only reason this one is personal to me. You see - a few years ago my brother and his wife purchased the former family home of my late husband. That’s right - I have spent many, many years visiting this home & spending time with Glenn and his family here. To be honest I still have a major sense of nostalgia with this home - one that my brother and his wife probably can’t even imagine. When I visit them I am always taken aback a bit as I pull into the driveway or walk up the front steps. The exterior of the house is pretty much exactly how I remember it and my senses are generally overcome with nostalgia as I approach the front door . . .

but the interior is a different story!

It’s a completely different house inside.

And it’s beautiful!

That’s not to say that it wasn’t great when they bought it! Matt & Niki took an already lovely home and have really made it their own.

It’s a tricky thing to do to make someone else’s home feel like your own - and when you know the previous owners it can be delicate as well. But ultimately you need to do what makes sense and feels right for you and your family.

Let’s have a look at the newly renovated kitchen:

Honestly - I have no words. It’s that beautiful!!

And while the house may look different inside - to me the feeling when I step inside is still the same.

This is still the home of a loving, caring, growing family of 5.

A home filled with warmth and laughter, of shared meals and conversation, an inviting space designed around comfortable living.

Niki has impeccable taste. She is a designer at heart (hopefully more on that soon!)

It’s easy to see that every design element and every decision made when designing this space was made with careful consideration.

Consideration for how it would hold up to the wear and tear of their young family, how each element would stand the test of time, how form and function would elevate their day to day living in the space, and of course, how each aspect of the design would contribute to the beauty of the space overall.

The living room space with its built in wood stove are a cozy retreat next to their gorgeous hard working kitchen.

The large front window brings in beautiful light and keeps them connected to the neighbourhood.

Now, I might get in trouble for posting this next picture . . . but I’m going to post it anyways.

These two are the sweetest and definitely didn’t plan on having their picture taken this day but I did it anyways, cause they’re the cutest and I just love them (and their home) so much. (photo taken from a previous visit)

Stay tuned for more designs from Niki Alane Interiors because this incredibly talented lady is just getting started!
